     Samuel Caruthers was born circa 1792 at New Jersey.1 He was the son of James Caruthers and Elizabeth Saunders.1 He was baptized on 9 February 1816 at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church, St. Martinville, St. Martin Parish, Louisiana.2 He married Victoire Royer, daughter of Augustin Royer and Marie Victoire Cormier, on 20 February 1816 at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church, St. Martinville, St. Martin Parish, Louisiana.1 He was the godfather of Samuel Royer baptized on 16 June 1816 at St. Landry Catholic Church, Opelousas, St. Landry Parish, Louisiana.3 He witnessed the marriage of Louis Valiere LeBlanc and Marie Felonise Royer on 28 October 1818 at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church, St. Martinville, St. Martin Parish, Louisiana.4
