     James P. Childers was born circa 1823 at Georgia.1 He was the son of John S. Childers and Permelia Burton. He married Candacia Truett circa 1848.1 He and his wife Candacia Childers appeared on the census of 23 September 1850 at Jasper County, Texas.2 He was employed as a lumber man on 23 September 1850 at Jasper County, Texas.2 He and his wife Candacia Childers appeared on the census of 31 July 1860 at Jasper County, Texas.3 He was employed as a farmer on 31 July 1860 at Jasper County, Texas.3 He was a veteran serving in Company G, 13th Texas Cavalry, Army of the Confederate States of America, circa 1863.1 He and his wife Candacia Childers appeared on the census of 8 September 1870 at Subdivision 23, Jasper County, Texas.4 He was employed as a farmer on 8 September 1870 at Subdivision 23, Jasper County, Texas.4 He died before 22 June 1900.5
