     Charles Goodnight was born on 5 March 1836 at Macoupin County, Illinois.1 He was the son of Charles Foxwing Goodnight and Charlotte Collier.2,3 He appeared on the census of 21 October 1850 in the household of Charlotte Daugherty at Milam and Williamson District, Milam County, Texas.4 He married Mary Ann Dyer, daughter of Joel Henry Dyer and Susan Lynch Miller, on 26 July 1870 at Hickman County, Kentucky.5 He and his wife Mary Ann Goodnight appeared on the census of 1 June 1880 at Armstrong County, Texas.6 He was employed as a cattle groomer on 1 June 1880 at Armstrong County, Texas.6 He and his wife Mary Ann Goodnight appeared on the census of 20 April 1910 at Justice Precinct 3, Goodnight, Armstrong County, Texas.7 He and his wife Mary Ann Goodnight appeared on the census of 21 January 1920 at Goodnight, Armstrong County, Texas.8 He was employed as the superintendent of his own ranch on 21 January 1920 at Goodnight, Armstrong County, Texas.8 He became a widower upon the death of his wife Mary Ann Goodnight on 11 April 1926 at Goodnight, Armstrong County, Texas.5 He married Corrine Oletta Goodnight, daughter of Thomas A. Goodnight and Susanna Cook, on 5 March 1927 at the home of Mayor Henry W. Taylor, Goodnight's nephew at Clarendon, Donley County, Texas.9,1,10 He died on 12 December 1929 at Tucson, Pima County, Arizona, at age 93 years, 9 months and 7 days.1 He was buried at Goodnight Cemetery, Goodnight, Armstrong County, Texas.1
