Lt. Joseph Collier was born in 1749 at Hanover County, Virginia
.1 He was the son of Captain John Collier Jr. and Elizabeth Meredith.1 He married Amy Moseley, daughter of Captain Edward Moseley, on 15 December 1772.1 He was a veteran of the American Revolution, serving with the rank of Lieutenant in the Militia on 14 February 1782 at Charlotte County, Virginia.1 He died in 1819 at Edgefield District, South Carolina, at age 70 years.1
